Your Promise

I don’t do well with suffering
I feel sorry for myself
And I cry out in my anguish
Why is this the hand that I’ve been dealt?

Though I try, I’m not devoid of sin
For no one is completely pure within
So, I’m scared that You’ll reject me
 I worry You’ll forget me

And I pray:
Lord have Mercy
Christ have Mercy
Lord have Mercy on my soul
Then I turn back to Your Word
Reinforce all I’ve heard

You didn’t promise to prevent the pain
You didn’t promise to wash away the rain
Your only promise was to be right by my side
Through good and bad times, low and high tide

And I feel you close to me
As I try to be who I’m meant to be
Through troubles, I struggle to be brave
Even though it’s only ease I crave

And I pray:
Lord have Mercy
Christ have Mercy
Lord have Mercy on my soul
Then I turn back to Your Word
Reinforce all I’ve heard

You didn’t promise to prevent the pain
You didn’t promise to wash away the rain
Your only promise was to be right by my side
Through good and bad times, low and high tide

Your only promise was to be right by my side
Through good times and bad, low and high tide
And I feel you close to me
I feel you close to me…
