Marrakesh

I got tired of the winter snows
Parkas, mukluks and woolen clothes
Jack Frost etching the window panes
Icy winds bringing on chilblains
So I moved down to Marrakesh
Oh, I moved down to Marrakesh

It’s an old Berber-Arabian town
Where all nationalities abound
Shimmering under the African sun
Frenetic, crazy carnival fun
I could get used to Marrakesh
Oh, I could get used to Marrakesh

Meandering alleys confuse like a maze
Overlaid with noise, scents and haze
Tiling, and ancient artistry thrives
Too much to see in 20 lives
Spend my time exploring Marrakesh
Spend my time exploring Marrakesh

The medina’s walled and densely packed
Teeming souks with shelves all stacked
Color and madness on the desert sand
Snake charmers, drugs, donkey cabs on hand
I could lose myself in Marrakesh
Oh, I could lose myself in Marrakesh

Crowds of people, endless things to do
But I find myself missing you
Sometimes I’m lonely down to the bone
Guess it’s time for me to go back home
So I’m gonna be leaving Marrakesh
Yes, I’m gonna be leaving Marrakesh

I’ll miss the mosques call to prayer,
Islamic architecture abundant there
The beautiful artisan heritage
French, Spanish everything verbiage
My heart will ache for Marrakesh
Oh, my heart will ache for Marrakesh
