My Knight
I opened up the book of love
And found you pressed within
Magnified the details and found
My name tattooed on your skin
There were dragons on your shoulders
Flanking a knight on splendid steed
I gazed into your sea blue eyes
My body flushed with need
“What does this mean?” I asked
My palms pressed to the book
“That I should be so discomposed
From a photo and one look?”
I replaced the treasured tome
Back upon its dusty shelf
I knew I wouldn’t lose the dream
For I had lost myself
Back in the ordinary world
With its dearth of fantasy
Foolishly I searched for
you
And hoped you searched for me...
Then one day in the coffee shop
I turned and you were there
You felt my scorching look
And met me stare for stare
Light and color swirled round
As I fainted to the floor
Awoke with a summer wind
Warming my heart and core
My knight knelt before me
Desire washed me in a flood
He ministered my injuries
Dabbing acrid drops of blood
“You’ve returned to us,” he said
And he scooped me from the floor
“I’ll take you home and care for you,”
And he whisked me through the door--
I opened up the book of love
Now written on your page
We are entwined forever
Together always, age to age
