Without a Ring

I was so young searching to belong

He was older sometime warm, sometime colder

It was no surprise that he filled my eyes

With dreams of forever that I never doubted

Even though my friends all shouted

That I was a fool

He was to me, what no one else could ever be

While I was just another plaything

Left behind without a ring

He melted away like ice on a hot day

Checked his home, but he was gone

I stared out over the pavements

The cars held together by payments

Not a place anyone would want to stay

Is that why he ran?

He was to me, what no one else could ever be

While I was just another plaything

Left behind without a ring

I won’t be a fool again, but then

No one has a chance to be that young again

Stars in my eyes all dimmed, red-rimmed

But I set it aside, took a ride

On a bus, on a plane, on a dream

Into my winning future

He was to me, what no one else could ever be

While I was just another plaything

Left behind without a ring

Sometimes I wonder, would he care

That I’m a long, long way from there

Could we have weathered everything

If we’d stayed together

I’ll never know, It was all so long ago…

So fortunate

He was to me, what no one else could ever be

While I was just another plaything

And luckily, Left behind without a ring
