Unrequited

Life is so damn unfair
For I love you and you don’t care
And I am not the only one
Who loved and was left undone
Remember Liz Cortran?
She loved Billy D. and he just ran

Yes I am not the only one
Who loved and was left undone
Love‘s power makes us feel delighted
But it hurts like hell when it’s unrequited

Rarely do two lovers feel the same
So love seems like a loser’s game
While one is trying way too hard
The other is busy building up their guard
Yet love evokes the gambler’s sin
The belief that the next try will be the win

I am not the only one
Who loved and was left undone
Love‘s power makes us feel delighted
But it hurts like hell when it’s unrequited

Like a midsummer night
Cupid’s arrows fly left and right
Rarely hitting two who know
How to let love in and let it grow
Yet love evokes the gambler’s sin
The belief that the next try will be the win

I am not the only one
Who loved and was left undone
Love‘s power makes us feel delighted
But it hurts like hell when it’s unrequited

This house, their home

There’s a billiard table, a corner bar
Video games, and a model car
Cigars in a box and a rifle on the wall
Pin-up calendars and a moose call
This is a his room, a man’s room

Two floors up all flowers and frills
Artistic pictures and family stills
Sewing machine and blooming plants
Bold colors borrowed from Rembrandt's
This is her room, a woman’s room

On the main floor a crazy mix
Glass bookshelves next to fireplace bricks
Black leather sofa and a velvet chair
Red runner up the hardwood stair
This is the kick-back room, the family room

Warm kitchen with granite and wood
Double ovens, induction stove and hood
All-clad cookware and copper pots
Bar corner great for pouring shots
Great for family or entertaining friends
This is where their living blends

This house is now their place
Cradling each other’s space
Inside they’ve thrown their things together
Outside planted bulbs and winter heather
This house is now a home, their home

Love on the Brain

He likes picking up broken things
Tinkering with them until they work again
Maybe that’s why he picked me
Those fissures only he could see

He says, “Precious girl let me love you
Let me melt you into water
Let me lift you into fire
Let’s get lost inside each other”

I dissolve in his pretty words
The sexiest I have ever heard
I know I should probably run
But his flirting is too much fun
His pretty words fall like rain
And now I've got love on the brain

He likes surprising me
By bicycling through soft rain showers
Gifting jellies instead of chocolate
Bringing balloons instead of flowers

I’m in trouble here, I care too much
Yet he phones me just to say goodnight
I know he could crush me and my heart
Still I hug the phone and smile in delight

He says, “Precious girl let me love you
Let me melt you into water
Let me lift you into fire
Let’s get lost inside each other”

I dissolve in his pretty words
The sexiest I have ever heard
I know I should probably run
But his flirting is too much fun
His pretty words fall like rain
And now I've got love on the brain
