I Run

I run
Burning bridges as I go
Never letting friendships grow
The only way I stay safe
Is to keep moving from place to place
Can’t afford any mistake
My jobs pay under-the-table; no one sees
I sleep fortressed with many keys
I keep my eyes cast down
So people only see my frown
And if someone starts asking why
It’s time again to say good-bye
So I deal under the radar
To buy a forgettable car

And I run
Toward the setting sun
Across my lap I hold a gun
Because someone caught my trail
And I feel them on my tail
I won’t go down without a fight
So when the sun slips out of sight
I shut off every light
And my black car melds into the night

And I run
Before they turn the spotlights on
I’m already gone
And I’m just another mystery
It’s the only way that I stay free
Another town where I‘m unknown
Another place that’s not a home

I run
Burning bridges as I go
Never letting friendships grow
The only way I stay safe
Is to keep moving from place to place
Can’t afford any mistake

I run
