Vampire's Last Meal

Your words swirled round like sensuous dancers
Whispering promises, requesting no answers
Your eyes full of mischief, your hands always seeking
Who knew you would leave my eyes sad and leaking

Broken mirror--pieces spread out on the floor
Fallen, shattered, scattered with the slamming of the door
Reflecting different aspects of what we had before
Searing pain where shards pierced my heart's core

Sweet romance followed by that breaking up ordeal
Stole my lifeblood like a vampire’s last meal
My belief in romance and in myself was blown apart
And a piece of my soul seeped out of my broken heart

Wicked Claws

I know you’re angry, and I know you’re feeling sad
Things transpired lately have ruined what we had
But I was not alone during all that we went through
On that troubled road, I walked along with you
So I won’t apologize nor accept your misplaced blame
Nor will I argue and defend-- for what would be the aim?

I don’t like this animosity: would rather part as friends
But that can only happen if you see things through my lens
So set aside your prejudice; don’t build it to a cause
Put away your eyeteeth and sheath your wicked claws
Instead recall the good times and how love came to be
Just as I’ll remember, all you have meant to me

Even nations should have learned down the ages and the years
That warring with another never assuaged bitter tears
Nor does war bring closure, or bring our hearts relief
Instead it seeds the soil for further war and grief
So set aside your prejudice; don’t build it to a cause
Put away your eyeteeth and sheath your wicked claws

We called it Love

We were mere sparks in a vast expanse
Much smaller than stars
Light-years beyond Mars
Each journeying alone
Routes uncharted, unknown
Until fate interjected
And our paths intersected
The result unexpected
A fusion of an unusual kind
A bonding of body, soul and mind
And we called it Love

For eons we travelled together
Joined by that insoluble tether
We had one another
Soul mates and lovers
Until creation was rent and rang
With the explosion of the Big Bang
The Universe was formed
On God’s Monday morn
But we were blown apart
Broken spirits, broken heart

Perhaps fate heard as we keened
Because soon it intervened
Our souls fell to Earth
In separate human birth
We learned to live in temporal time
Each day a struggle and climb

We journeyed, each alone
Routes uncharted, unknown
Until fate interjected
And our paths intersected
The result unexpected
A fusion of an unusual kind
A bonding of body, soul and mind
And we called it Love
