Mosaic

Just one of a billion broken people
Eyes trained beseechingly on the steeple
Wondering if there is a savior close at hand
Who’s watching fumbling footsteps in the sand
Listening and discerning every breath and call
Patiently waiting to catch you when you fall

There is an ongoing movement to prove there is no God
But it’s the god of simplistic stories they abhor
It’s the dogma of religions, and the clergy’s broken vows
The way the churches wield control demanding scrapes and bows
It’s in the promise of science, the logic of left-brain
Ignoring right-brain faith where wisdom and creativity reign

Those many mosques and churches will all have to atone
For misrepresenting God and saying he speaks to them alone
For manipulating others using their wishes, guilt and fear
For claiming God’s wrath is drawing ever near
The mosques and churches will in time crack and crumble
But God’s presence, love and grace will never falter nor tumble

Intrinsically we know we are each a single tile
In a majestic mosaic stretching forever mile by mile
It reaches to the moon and far beyond the sun
It reaches forward infinitely and back where it had begun
It’s built with peace and love, and colors bright and broad
Each a part of this great One-ness – and this is God
