Don’t know the future, don’t understand the past
Flailing around trying to make friendship last
Once I was laughing and believed in romance
Until you two-stepped right out of that dance
Then I was crying, my face one with the rain
You dried my tears, guiding me home again
Once I thought love was the answer to all
Until there was nothing to cushion my fall
Where do we go when all doors are closed?
Trapped in our own delusions and prose
Searching your pockets for chocolate and keys
Whispering a prayer while down on your knees
Breaking the windows into sharp, lethal shards
Wondering who has the answers, who holds the cards
If you try the doorknobs you will be shocked
The doors were shut, but none of them locked
Stand on the precipice close to the edge
Dizzy from looking down from the ledge
Considering flying, yet afraid you might fall
Hearing only an echo in response to your call
But the view is breathtaking, the light all too real
It brightens your soul changing what you feel
So you alter direction, turn toward the sun
Today is the first day your life has begun
